President of the United States of America
Joseph R. Biden Jr.
Dear Mr President,
If we understood correctly, on the occasion of the Statehood Day of Serbia, you sent a letter to sincerely congratulate to the citizens of Serbia, reminding them of 140 years of partnership between Serbia and the United States, their alliance in both world wars, the contribution of Serbs to American society in many fields etc.
On that occasion, you pointed out your permanent commitment to the promotion of democratic values, and to Serbia you indicated the need to normalize its relations with Kosovo (sic.), focused on mutual recognition.
However, if Serbs under present circumstances do not enjoy even the basic human rights in Kosmet, then it is hard to believe that their fate, fate of their property, of the Serbian Orthodox Church and the monasteries would be better after the forced recognition.
We hope that your commitment to the promotion of democratic values does not imply the selective application of those values - that is, that those values are applicable to about 1.5 million Kosovo Albanians in Kosmet, and not applicable to the same number of Serbs in Republic of Srpska in BiH.
Best regards,
Democracy Development Foundation
