Referendum Law...
and the consequences that might occur

Based on the knowledge that on 26 November 2021 an initiative to to the Serbian Constitutional Court to review the constitutionality of the "Law on Referendum and Popular Initiative" was lodged and based on the information that yesterday the Parliament called a referendum, the motion was filed with the Serbian Constitutional Court to suspend yesterday's decision on referendum that was held on January 16 2022 (Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia, No. 115/2021) - which came into force yesterday and will be applied from today - pending completion of the aforesaid constitutionality review procedure.

In the justification for the aforementioned motion, the Court was made aware of new circumstances: that every future referendum shall succeed - regardless of how many voters will turn out  and regardless how many of them vote in favor off the referendum's question. In connection with these referendum privileges, it was proposed in parliament yesterday to amend the entire Constitution, especially the parts relating to the national anthem, language, alphabet, state symbols, that Serbia is the state of the Serbian people, etc.
